Our History
A Legacy of Faith in Ayr
The story of Calvary Ayr Church began in 1954 as a Sunday school outreach initiated by the Mannheim Mennonite Church and the Mennonite Conference of Ontario. This outreach led to the establishment of a dedicated congregation in Ayr, with the construction of a church building in 1960 and an adjacent parsonage in 1970. Over the years, the church underwent several expansions to accommodate its growing community.
In 2019, seeking to align more closely with its evolving mission and community needs, Calvary Church transitioned from its Mennonite affiliations and became a campus of Calvary Pentecostal Assembly based in Cambridge, Ontario. This move marked a new chapter in our journey, embracing a renewed vision and broader fellowship.
Today, located at 173 Northumberland Street, Ayr, ON N0B 1E0, Calvary Ayr Church continues to be a beacon of hope and a place where individuals and families can grow in their faith, serve others, and experience the transformative love of Christ.
Our Movement
We’re honoured to be part of a diverse and growing movement of over 1,000 churches across Canada—the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. Our story is rooted in the faithfulness of those who came before us, and we step into the future with bold expectation, believing God is not finished writing our story.
Our Vision
Disciples Making Disciples
At Calvary Ayr, we believe Jesus’ final words shape our deepest purpose: to make disciples who make disciples. This calling is rooted in love for God and others, and expressed through a life of knowing Jesus, growing in Him, serving like Him, and reaching others with His love.
Scripture Foundations
The Great Commission — Matthew 28:16–20
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go... 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
The Greatest Commandments — Matthew 22:37–40
37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' ... 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.'"
Jesus commanded us to make disciples, and disciples are those who obey His commandments—loving God and loving others.
Our 4 Key Pillars To Discipleship
These four pillars guide our path as we follow Jesus together:
Knowing Christ
John 14:6-7
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well."
At Calvary Ayr, we proclaim Christ and His salvation. We invite people into personal relationship with Him, into a vibrant community, and into new life through baptism.
Growing in Christ
2 Peter 3:18
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen."
We prioritize theological vitality and spiritual disciplines. Whether through prayer, Bible engagement, or Connect Groups—we grow together in faith and understanding.
Serving Like Christ
Matthew 20:26–28
"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant... just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve."
Jesus modeled servant leadership. We follow His example by using our gifts to serve the church—kids, youth, worship, hospitality, tech, young adults, admin, and more.
Reaching For Christ
Acts 1:8
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses... to the ends of the earth."
Empowered by the Spirit, we reach beyond our walls—sharing Christ in our community and supporting global missions so that all may know His love.
